The cold that persists in Europe since early January is "finally" arrived on the Iberian Peninsula and especially in Spain from the Pyrenees to Andalusia in different forms.

Snow on the beaches of Spain

From Castellon de la Plana to the province of Malaga snow fell, inland certainly but also on the beaches of the Mediterranean.

The beaches of the community of Valencia under the snow

The most spectacular of this wave of Siberian cold is undoubtedly the snow fell on January 18 on many beaches of the coast especially between Dénia and the south of the province of Alicante.

Indeed it snowed a few centimeters on the beaches including Denia, Torrevieja, Orihuela and many others. Around Denia the snow had not fallen thus since 1983!

More inland the snow remained around Alcoy.

On 19th January the beaches are spared by the snow, cons of the strong hail fell especially on Benidorm which has for the time its white beach but it is not snow :)

Murcia is in the snow

It had been 34 years since 1973 that the snow had not fallen like that on the province of Murcia and its beaches !

Only the outside beaches of the Mar Menor were spared :)

In Cartagena the coast were totally white on January 18, 2017.

The city of Murcia remained on 18th January around - 4 degrees.

Northern Spain with polar temperatures

The main passes of the Pyrenees are closed since January 17th and this continues on January 18th and 19th, as well as many accesses between France and Spain.

At the top of the ski resorts temperatures could fall below -20 degrees!

And in the towns of Benasque (Pyrenees) and Alto campoo (Cordillera Cantabria) recorded - 17 degrees on January 18, 2017.

The Costa Brava and all the Catalan Coast Knows very cool temperatures and snow in the province of Girona with in the mountains up to -22 degrees.

In Asturias the snow has blown the peaks in Puerto san Isidro and the lakes of Covadonga at 1134 meters are totally frozen which is quite rare.

Further down in the province of Salamanca in the ski resort of Covatilla.

Snow in the Balearic Islands January 2017

First affected by the cold spell, the Balearics experienced snow in Majorca and the storm with strong waves on other islands.

It is not uncommon to see snow in Majorca, the main island of the Balearic Islands indeed has a high peak at over 1000 meters of altitude, however here the snow fell to 300 meters of altitude only!

Snow in central Spain January 2017

The community of Madrid is not spared by the precipitation of snow that accompanies this cold weather.

In Segovia and Cuenca, the temperatures are so low that all the fountains are frozen and stalactites descend from the trees :)

Andalusia under the storm and the snow inside

Even Andalusia is touched by strong precipitation and strong winds fading only after Cadiz on the way to Huelva and Portugal.

The sea is dismantled on a large part of the Andalusian coast with winds and rains as well as a temperature felt around 5 degrees.

In the land full Jaen broke records with - 4 degrees.

It has snowed in Velez Rubio and Velez Blanco in the Province of Almeria as well as in Ronda very close to Malaga. Heavy precipitation also on the high peaks as in Sierra Nevada.
